Intervista con KAREN STREET

Where were you born and educated?

I was born in Burton on Trent, England. I studied music at Bath University.

What kind of music do you compose and create?

I compose jazz based compositions for jazz quartet. I also create educational music for saxophone solos, duets, quartets, ensembles. More recently I composed musics for brass ensembles. I also compose for Free Bass Accordion.

Did you face any obstacles in your carrier ? What kind of obstacles?

Not really, I have always worked well.

What do you think could be done to help women working in music business?

I think many women give up a career in music because they have a family and they perhaps lose their confidence. I am fortunate as I have a partner who is also a musician so I am always been able to have a career. There are many women on the classical scene and in orchestras so I don’t think there is a problem here. In the jazz world there are not so many women, but this is slowly changing so I think it is only a matter of time.
