Hui Ye

(born in 1981, in Canton, China, resident in Vienna), composer. She commenced compositions studies at the Xinghai School of Music. Hui Ye has lived in Vienna since 2003. She initially studied at the Vienna Conservatory and switched to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (counterpoint) in 2004. Since 2006 she has studied composition (Prof. Müller- Siemens) and electro-acoustic composition (Toro Perez, Prof. Essl). Hui Ye was involved with the Canton Opera in southern China at an early age. Even if she resorts to this traditional material, she consciously avoids echoes of otherwise very tipical-sounding “contemporary Chinese compositions. Since commencing the program in electro-acoustic composition, Hui Ye has developed a special interest in spectral composing techniques, without discarding previously used materials of Cantonese modes. Her music receives entirely new strength and color through the combination of these two elements.
