Anna Veismane

Anna Veismane (1976, Latvia) studied composition at the J.Vitols Latvian Academy of Music graduating with a master’s degree. The teachers of composition were Pēteris Vasks, Romualds Kalsons and Juris Karlsons. She has participated in master classes with John Woolrich, Klas Torstensson, David Lang, Par Lindgren, Tapio Tuomela (Young Composers Mastercourses in Latvia), Yannis Kyriakides (Music Laboratory The Process in Lithuania), and Jonathan Harvey (the Time of Music festival in Finland). Her music has been performed by Latvian National Symphony orchestra, Liepaja Symphony Orchestra, Latvian Radio Choir, ensemble Altera Veritas, Tampere Raw, string quartet ConTempo, accordionist Timo Kinnunen, pianist Dora Petery, mezzosoprano Ieva Parša. She has written music for films, theatre performances. Her music has been played in Latvia, Lithuania (festival Druskomanija), Finland (Hetta Music Event, Time of Music festival), Japan (festival Creative), Estonia, Germany, UK and Rumania. She has also been participating in concerts as a pianist. The innovative duo oneplusone was created by Timo Kinnunen and her in 2009. At present her works are focused on the theatricality of music performance and interaction between performers and the audience, as well as improvisation.
