Jenna Marie Vainio

Jenna Marie Vainio (1972, Helsinki, Finland) studied composition at the Helsinki University and at the Sibelius Academy. She has also participated in master courses with Magnus Lindberg and Brian Ferneyhough and Sven-David Sandström. Her pieces have been performed in Finland and abroad and broadcast on radio in the Nordic countries and USA. Most of her pieces are written commissions. Orchestras and choirs that have performed her pieces include Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Hartford Symphony Orchestra (USA), Norrkoping Symphony Orchestra (Sweden), Ensemble Fusions (Canada), The Finnish Radio Chamber Choir and UMO Jazz Orchestra. Her works have been published and recorded. A Sweet Escapade for big band and Ankomst till Hades (Arrival in Hades) have both enjoyed success in international composition competitions. Besides classical music she is known for her passion for metal and its sub genres. A guitarist and music arranger herself, her first influences included the progressive metal guitarists Yngwie Malmsteen, Jason Becker, Vinnie Moore, Tony MacAlpine and Joe Satriani.
