Marianna Tscharkwiani

(born in 1972, in Tbilisi, Georgia, resident in Vienna), composer.  She came to Vienna to research the theoretical and historical aspects of electronic music in the 20th century  She studied musicology at the V. Saradjishvili Tbilisi State Conservatorie from 1991 to 1996. Between 1994 and 2000 she studied composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Media music holds special interest for her. The various implementations of jazz and rock music, as well as crossover elements, have become pivotal for her compositions. For the past few years she has written virtuoso compositions for guitar. Together with the guitarist and composer Eduardo Valdès, she founded the group “Soul contamination (composition, singing).She has written in various song styles, from jazz to pop rock to heavy metal.
Selected works: Rbola, song for voice, tenor sax, trumpet, trombones, electric piano,  violin/electric bass (1999), Mad logic for Big Band (2003), Asphixia for voice/voice performance/electric guitar/ electronic/ samples (2007).

Awards: composition grant by the Austrian Federal Chancellery/Arts Section (2005).
