Saadet Türkoz

Singer and songwriter of Kazakh origin, was born in Istanbul, Turkey, 1961. Her early inspirations came from the transmitted oral and musical traditions of the highlands of Central Asia. As a child, living in Istanbul near the Marmara Sea she was fascinated by the Arabic language, and the melodious texts of the Koran, which gave her the first opportunity to deliberately improvise without paying attention to sense and correctness. At the age 20 she left for Switzerland. There she experienced an exciting new world of music: free jazz, improvisation and a refreshing openness towards experimentation. She seeks to evoke pictures and atmosphere by means of voice and music, which transcend cultural boundaries. In addition to her frequent solo concerts, she regularly performs in duos, trios or bigger formations with free improvising jazz musicians with universal musicians. She lives in Zurich.
