Montserrat Torras

(Barcelona, 1973) earned her B.M. at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu. She holds an M.M and a D.M.A. in Composition from the New England Conservatory of Boston, where she studied with composers Michael Gandolfi and Lee Hyla. Ms. Torras has been invited to several summer festivals such as the Tanglewood Music Festival and attended master classes with composers George Benjamin, Osvaldo Golijov, and Augusta Read Thomas. Ms. Torras has been commissioned by L‟Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, l‟Auditorio Nacional de Música, Collage New Music, Tanglewood Music Center, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and her music has been performed by the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, NEC Honors Orchestra, and Fromm Players. She has been the recipient of the Donald Martino Award for Excellence in Composition, the BMOP/ NEC Composition Contest, the Honors String Quartet Competition, Fundación Autor Grant, the Tourjeé Alumni Award, and the NEC Merit Scholarship. Her work Hèlix, for large orchestra was premiered in Barcelona in 2010.
