Sylvia Smejkalova

(born in 1974 in Ostrava, Czech Republic), composer. After studies at the Conservatoire in Ostrava she continued at the Prague Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where she earned a Masters degrees in music composition and musical director. In 2001 the Herder scholarship on the basis of a graduate degree in electroacoustic composition class of Dietra Kaufmann, Universität für Musik und Kunst Wien Darstellende. In 2003 together with her fellow composer Michal Trnka she founded civil association "early reflections"for the promotion and operation of Czech and world music of XX century as well as contemporary music. Each year, she participates in projects with international participation. Selected projects will apply to domestic and foreign festivals (Festival Alternativa, Moscow; Der Film Festival, Prague). In the field of music direction she regularly cooperates with Czech National Symphony Orchestra, and the Japanese record label JVC Victoria Entertainment. Long term deals with incidental music and works for children (pantomime fairy tale "Brouhadka", It was not radio" created for the project Radioacoustica 2006). She has performed the implementation of music for graduation ceremonies of the University of Applied Arts in Prague 2008, and a number of projects for Galerie Havelka(Praha)
Selected works: Several projects in collaboration with visual artists: eg"signs above the tracks"for the project Anna Places Matouskova (Prague, Olomouc, New York); Komposition für rv for Rudolf Valenta (Berlin).
Awards: the 3rd prize for the song "Humanistische Apotheosis"for symphony orchestra, which was the 100th anniversary of the Berlin Humanist Association, which premiered in Berlin (2005).
