Marina Panayiotou

(born and resident in Larnaca, Cyprus), composer. In Larnaca she studied theory, piano and guitar at the Helicon Odeon. She continued her music studies in Greece (Athens) and Germany. During her studies in Germany, Marina gained a BA in Composition as a student in the class of the German composer Günther Becker at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. She subsequently furthered her studies in Composition at a postgraduate level at the Folkwang University of Arts in Essen in the class of Nikolaus A. Huber. She also studied Electronic and Computer Music in the class of Dirk. Reith. She participated in the 34th International Seminar for Contemporary Music in Darmstadt (Germany) and she attended a workshop with Israeli Composers in Tel Aviv. She was a founding member of the Ensemble Go Ahead in Dusseldorf, an ensemble renowned for the dissemination and performances of new music. Her music was performed in various concerts in Germany (Dusseldorf, Hagen, Hannover, Mönchengladbach and Essen), Israel (Tel Aviv), Hungary (Vac), France (Reims), Italy(Rome), and Greece (Athens). Marina Panayiotou is a founding member of the Center of Cypriot Composers. Performances of her works were given a Cyprus premiere in the Spring Concerts of Cypriot Composers (2001-2005) and in concerts with Cyprus Symphony Orchestra (2008).. She works as a music teacher in secondary school.
