Lina Nyberg

(born and resident in Stockholm, Sweden), is a jazz vocalist and composer. She was raised in an artistic home and discovered jazz at age of 14. At the age of 18 Nyberg began to sing with Swedish senior jazz stars such as Bernt Rosengren, Nisse Sandström, Fredrik Norén Band, and others. In 1990 she founded her own first group Lina Nyberg Kvintett (Lina Nyberg Quintet) consisting of Per Texas Johansson, Esbjörn Svensson, Dan Berglund and Mikel Ulfberg. After graduating from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, as a Master of Fine Arts in 1993, she released her first CD Close (Prophone Records), a duo recording with late pianist Esbjörn Svensson. This was also the beginning of a very fruitful cooperation with the brilliant producer and owner of Prophone Records, the late Erland Boëthius. Over the years Nyberg has collaborated with various jazz musicians such as John Taylor, Marilyn Crispell, Palle Danielsson and Rigmor Gustafsson. She has toured in Scandinavia, parts of Europe, Vietnam, Canada and Brazil. A couple of times Nyberg has toured in Japan with Yasuhito Mori’s Scandinavian Connection. The Brazilian connection is important to Nyberg and she has produced two CDs dedicated to Brazil and its vast musical landscape; Brasilien (Prophone) 2003 with bass player Anders Jormin and Brasil Big Bom 2007 (Caprice records) with big band and Swedish saxophonist Magnus Lindgren. As a solo artist and producer she has released 14 CDs. Her main constellation right now is the Lina Nyberg Band featuring Cecilia Persson, piano, David Stackenäs, guitar, Josef Kallerdahl, bass and Peter Danemo, drums.
