Lise-Lotte Norelius

(born in Kungsör/Stockholm, 1961, resident Stockholm /Sweden), is a percussionist and composer in the EAM, live electronic and sound art music. She has often collaborated together with dancers and artists. Growing up she did a lot of sound experiments together with her brother in the family's basement and she also wrote her own music. When she had the opportunity to start playing an instrument, her first choice was the harp. However, it was not possible to have lessons in harp where she lived so her choice fell on the violin instead. Norelius changed to percussion during her high school years. When she came across world music, she became fascinated of the music from other cultures, especially Africans. Together with Anita Livstrand Norelius founded the multi percussion duo Anitas Livs in 1987, a band which still exists. Here, she started to explore samplers and electro acoustic music. Norelius was part of collaboration with Konstfack, The Art Academy) and from this she knew that the electro acoustic music was her genre. She studied percussion and composition at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. A great deal of the music she writes, she performs herself, but when she composes for other people, she leaves space for improvisation. When composing, Norelius is often experimenting. Many of her works are in the performance character. She often works with dancers and has also made some projects with video and live electronics. Norelius puts rhythms in layers upon each other which creates a special groove, even if her music is without a pulse.
