Sofía Martínez Ramírez

(born on 25th October 1965 in Vitoria, Spain). Composer, pianist and teacher. She studied piano and composition with Carmelo Bernaola. In 1992, she moved to Paris and studied composition with Emmanuel Nunes at the Ecole Nationale de Musique in Romainville. She taught music at the Conservatory of Mostoles, at the Ecole Nationale de Musique in Sevran, the Ecole de Musique in Parmain and the Conservatorio de Paris XVI. She conducted the Pfizer Choir (Paris), was organist at the "Eglise lutheriene de la Trinité" (Paris) and she was director of the contemporary music group Frullato. She stayed at the Spanish Academy in Rome (2000). As a composer she has received commissions from the Centre for the Dissemination of Contemporary Music, the French Ministry of Culture of the Basque Government and the Quincena Musical of San Sebastian.

Awards: She was awarded the prize for Contemporary Musical Creation by the Basque Government (1999), the Composition Prize "Eresbil" (2000) and special mention for his "Apollo and Daphne" Competition composition by the College of Spain and INAEM.
