Paula Af Malmborg-Ward

(born in Stockholm, 1962, resident Gothenburg/Sweden), is a classical contemporary composer especially in opera but she has written music for the most varied ensembles and genre and has written music to the Swedish selection of the Eurovision contest as well. During her childhood, in parallel with studies in classical piano with Gunnar Hallhagen, she wrote songs, arranged, sang and played piano in several groups and worked with theater music and TV Malmborg-Ward studied Master of fine arts in 79-83 and arranging and composition Bachelor, in 1989-92, both at the Royal college of Music in Stockholm. She studied composition Master, with Hans Gefors with an emphasis on dramatic music, at Malmö Academy of Music in –'92-'97 and her diploma work The Bomb Party, -'97, was premiered in –'98 at the Gothenburg Opera. She also worked as a rehearser, arranger, pedagogue and music teacher and she worked at several different theaters in Sweden as well as in Finland. In 2005 she was composer at Stockholm's Stadsteater and the same year she worked with Swedish Television in the children's program En Decemberdröm (A December dream). In 2006 -09 Malmborg-Ward was Composer in Residence at the Helsingborg Symphony orchestra. In 2001 she was portrayed in the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra's Composer's weekend and her music was performed by most of the Swedish orchestras. Her music often has a lively temperament and is full of ideas. For her the time, and timing are important parameters. Malmborg-Ward has been a member of Royal Academy of Music since 2008, FST (Society of Swedish Composers) since 1999 and member of the board since 2010. She also has been a member of the Artistic Council of Music Development and Heritage Sweden since 2011.
