Petra Gavlasova

(born in Ostrava, Czech Republic) composer. She studied with Milan Bachorek and Edvard Schiffauer (Janacek conservatory of Ostrava, 1990-1996) and Milan Slavicky (Prague Academy of Music, 1996-2002). She attended Masterclasses with Marek Kopelent and Paul Mefano (Cesky Krumlov, 1997), lessons with Daan Manneke (the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music, 2001), postgraduate studies at the school of arts, media and technology in Hilversum, the Netherlands (2002-2003) .

Awards: 1st prize at the international radio competition "Concerto Bohemia" in 1998 (Excuses for piano, wood instruments, and percussions); 2nd prize at the national competition "Generace" in 1998 (You Are Snowing), special mention in 1999 (Septet for flute, violin, trumpet, french horn, bassoon, double bass, and piano) and 2000 (Two Preludes For Two Guitars); award for the composition Survivor from the Musica Nova elelectroacoustic competition in 2003.
