Elise Einarsdotter

(born 1955 Österlen, southeast of Sweden) residence Stockholm, is a Swedish jazz pianist, arranger and composer. Einarsdotter began to play the piano at the age of six and at fourteen she started to work as an assistant organist in churches. She discovered improvisation while playing pre- and postludium music. At the age of eighteen, Einarsdotter went to the U.S.A. and studied and worked for four years in New York and Boston (Berklee College of Music). She moves to Stockholm in 1977 and played with the group Tintomara for five years. 1979-81 complementary studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. During 1981-88 Einarsdotter taught part-time at the Royal College of Music. Nowdays she works fulltime as freelance, and among many other projects, leads her own Elise Einarsdotter Ensemble (E.E.E.) since 1984. She plays with her very own sound, a strong and poetic music. Original compositions, standard songs and free improvisations. Her music is deeply rooted in jazz, but it also has some branches into folklore. She composes music to lyrics, and also writes for choir and orchestra. She has composed regularly for choirs and classical instrumental ensembles, and she has also written theatre music. This love of travel through ever-changing musical landscapes shines with constant presence in her sound.
