Karen De Pastel

(born in the USA, resident in Vienna).

She studied organ performance, piano, violin and composition at the University of Music and the School of Performing Arts in Vienna. She graduated with distinction in 1987  and with the title of Magistra artium. In 1979 she debued as an organist at the Vienna Konzerthaus with works by J. S. Bach. As an organist and composer, she has gone on world tours (performing both solo and with renowned orchestras) in nearly every country in the world. Her works have been published by Doblinger and others. Since 1975, De Pastel has been Kapellmeister, organist and director of church music at Lillenfield Abbey.  She is director of the Lilienfiel Festival (opera, symphony and organ concerts) and president of the Lilienfield Summer Academy. Since 1985 she has been a professor at the Vienna University of music in piano (as a compulsory subject), organ solo and piano and organ labs. She presents an organ master class at the International Music Academy in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. She has conducted symphonic repertoire since 2001. De Pastel is director of the organ festival “Wienerwald Orgelfest”
