Dorit Chrysler

(born in Graz, 1966, resident in New York).

Composer, thereminplayer and vocalist. She received classical voice training at the Graz Opera, after which she studied musicology in Vienna and participated in the ensemble project “Halcion” in New York. Since 2001, she has been pursuing an international career with her solo project, which has included numerous releases and concerts in Japan, Australia, Europe, the USA and Canada. Chrysler has worked on film  music commissions for works including those of Danish artist Jesper Just. Her music is represented in the permanent collection of the MOMA, the Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Louisiana Museum in Copenhagen. She is founder of the New York Theremin Society and the European Theremin Association. Her solo concerts exhibit a broad spectrum of electronically created compositions that take their cue from popular, classical and experimental influences. These works employ the theremin in an independent and unusual manner. Since 2005 she has toured  the US, Japan, Australia, Canada, Brazil, & played Paris, London, Berlin, Belgrade, Stockholm, Helsinki, Mexico City, Reykjavic, Prague, Bukarest, Vienna, Switzerland, Italy , Spain, Portugal & New York. After an assortment of film &TV soundtracks, compilations, and singles, Dorit released her her first solo record featuring her theremin  in 2004.  Produced, recorded, enginnered, and performed by the artist herself, “best of “sold out quickly. In 2005 “Tiny Thrills”, a special Collectors Edition featured a collaboration with Gordon Raphael (the Strokes).

Performances: producer and performer of the world premiere of the 10piece Theremin orchestra of the 21st Century”at Disney Hall in Los Angeles commissioned by the Los Angeles Symphonia (2007) participating performance artist at the Berlin Biennale (2008), Lincoln Center Arts Festival, New York (2007).
