Edith Canat de Chizy

(born on March 26, 1950, Lyon), composer. While pursuing studies of Art and Archaeology and Philosophy at the Sorbonne, Edith Canat of Chizy successively obtained six first prizes (harmony, fugue, counterpoint, analysis, orchestration, composition) at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. She learned electroacoustic with Guy Reibel at the Conservatory and the Groupe de Recherches Musicales. Student of Ivo Malec she met in 1983 Maurice Ohana, she devoted him a monograph with François Porcile in 2005 (Ed Fayard). In the work of this training violinist, the concertante music occupies a special place: Moira, cello concerto, won the Prince Pierre de Monaco contest in 1999 and, the following year, Exultet violin concerto, created in 1995 by Laurent Korcia, was nominated for the Victoires de la Musique; Les Rayons du Jour, concerto for viola, was created in February 2005 by Ana Bela Chaves and the Orchestre de Paris conducted by Christoph Eschenbach. Her  works have been commissioned by  Radio France, Orchestre de Paris, ensembles such Musicatreize,  Nederlands Kamerkoor, Sequenza 9.3, Accentus, TM etc. She teaches composition at the Conservatory of Paris since 2007.

Awards: 2008, named Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur; 2005, elected to the Académie des Beaux-Art, the first woman composer member of the Institute of France; 2004, Grand Prix SACEM of Symphonic Music; 1990: Prize of the Tribune Internationale des Compositeurs for her work for orchestra Yell.
