Ailem Carvajal Gomez

(born 1972 in La Habana, Cuba, and resident in Parma, Italy) Cuban composer and pianist resident in Italy since 1997. She studied piano and music pedagogy at the Escuela Nacional de Arte de La Habana, then she studied composition and orchestral conducting at the Instituto Superior de Arte de Cuba. After graduating, she taught harmony, polyphony and orchestration at the Conservatorio Municipale A. Roldan and the Instituto Superior de Arte de Cuba and attended several international composition courses. She has been commissioned by institutions such as the Teatro alla Scala (Milan), the Centro d'Arte Contemporanea "Reina Sofia" (Madrid), the New York Music Miami Festival and the Williams Ensemble (USA) and the Ensemble Insomnio in Amsterdam. Her works have been performed in festivals in Italy and abroad, recorded and broadcasted by European and U.S. radio stations. They are published by Periferia Music (Barcelona) and Pizzicato Verlag Helvetia (Switzerland) and recorded by Sello Author (Madrid), RR Productions (Hamburg) and RYCY Productions (Los Angeles): She is a member of the National Writers and Artists Union in Cuba (UNEAC), founder of the Society for the development of contemporary art music in Cuba (SODAMC) and the Musicalia Children, for children and teen's musical education.
