Jana Barinkova

(born in Czech Republic), composer. She has a doctoral degree in composition from the Janacek Academy of Performing Arts (jamu) in Brno. She studied with Frantisek Emmert (jamu, 2001-2006) and Ivo Medek (jamu, 2006-11), and participated in composition masterclasses with many others (Jeff Beer, Felix Baumann, Mark Pekarsky, Martin Smolka, Tomas Ondrusek).
Selected works: Music of midnight fires 2001 for solo flute ; Six miniatures for chamber ensemble 2001; Inventions 2002 for solo trombone; Four seasons of eternity 2002 for organ, synthetiser and 2 percussionists; Words on strings 2002 on text by paul verlaine, for string quartet and baritone; Letokruhy 2003 for oboe, viola, harp, and harmonium; Duo 2003 for flute and clarinet; Lucente stella for chamber ensemble 2005 (premiered by ensemble klang at the gaudeamus festival in Amsterdam in 2006); Water air: an hommage to andre Breton 2005 for string trio, prepared piano, and three percussion players; and I know that you will come 2008.for string quartet and vibraphone.
Awards: special award for Czech composition, special award for composition by young composer, and 4th place in the International Finale (Rainbow Island) at The International Electroacoustic Music Competition "Musica Nova" 2005, 3rd prize (Music for strings and percussion) at the National competition of young composers "Generace" 2004.
