Timna Brauer

(born in Vienna, 1961), composer. Her Israelian mother is originally from Yemen, and her father is the Austrian painter Arik Brauer. Timna Brauer received her musical training at Vienna‘s Konservatorium Wien University and at the Sorbonne in Paris. In 1985 she founded an ensemble together with her husband, pianist Elias Meiri, and this ensemble makes worldwide appearances every year; the focus of every recording they have made has been on jazz, ethno and chansons. In 1986, Brauer represented Austria at the European Song Contest. In 2001 she played “Evita”at the Sommerseebühne lake stage in Klagenfurt. The period between 2002 and 2004 witnessed a large scale European tour entitled “Voices for Peace”. Since 2005 she has been working together closely with the publisher Ueberreuter Verlag, a collaboration which has produced the books Kinderlieder aus Europa (Children’s songs from Europe) and der Kleine Mozart (little Mozart). In 2007 she participated in the television show Dancing Stars (ORF) and the  Summer Festival at Kittsee Palace (Anatevka Fiddler on the Roof).
