Janet Beat

(17/12/1937, Streetly, UK) studied music at Birmingham University for her Mus. and M.A. As a composer, she had tuition from A.Goehr, Dallapiccola and Tippett. She has been a performer with her own ensemble and a lecturer. Between 1972-96 she lectured at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, (formerly the RSAMD), where she founded the electronic and recording studios and initiated a film music course. From 1996 she lectured at Glasgow University who made her an Honorary Research Fellow. Her music has been played world-wide with performances at some major music festivals including the Edinburgh International Festival, MDR Musicsommer, the Hayndfest, Tage für Neue Musik and has been a featured composer at festivals in Australia, Germany, Scotland and on Portuguese Radio She has had many commissions including some from the BBC, ITV, RSNO, Scottish Ballet and individual performers.
