Carin Bartosch Edström

(born 1965 in Malmö, resident Stockholm, Sweden), is a Swedish composer author and translator. She grew up in the USA and Italy and she has worked as an Italian language coach and translated opera librettos, specialized in old music. In 1987 she founded Lunds Studentopera, an "opera house/society" for students in Lund in Sweden where she directed works by Stravinsky and Hindermith. In the 90's she worked as a manger for the chamber orchestra Musica Vitae and her interest for composition was born. Edström studied at the Malmö Academy of Music and at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and graduated in 1999. Her teachers were Rolf Martisson, Hans Gefors, Lars Ekström, Lars-Erik Rosell and Sven-David Sandström. Edström is one of the founders as well a member of the female composer society Opus 96. In her composing Edström is mainly writing vocal music. She has written operas such as Trassel and the children's opera Huvudsaken but she has also written instrumental works in different shapes. Edström is a performing soprano in the classical repertoire, but mainly in her own works. She was elected member of Society of Swedish Composers in 2000. In 2011 Edström debutated as an author with her criminal novel, Furioso.
