Maria Andreou

(born in Cyprus, resident in Nicosia, Cyprus) composer. She holds a Bachelor in Music degree (BMus-University of Hull-UK), MA in Music (University of York-Uk), PhD (University of YORK), and a diploma in Drama (Vladimiros Kafkarides School of Drama School- Cyprus).
Selected works: Metaptoseis for String Quartet (2005), Universalis for Small Ensemble (2005-2006),  Aeriko for Solo Alto Flute (2006), Echoes from Olympus for 12 mixed Voices and 2 Percussionists (2008), Itaca for Mezzo Soprano and small Ensemble (2008-2009), Echochromata for clarinet in Bb, Cello and Piano (2009), Axion Esti for Symphony Orchestra and Narrator (2010-2011), Erinies for Saxophone Quartet (2011), The voice of a poet for bass clarinet (2005), Iketides for 7 female voices and percussion(2004)
Awards: First Prize at the Yiannis A. Papaioannou competition with the work Aeriko for alto flute organized by the Greek composers Union; Third Prize at the Contemporary Composition Competion with the Metaptosesis work for string quartet organized by the Cyprus Ministry of Culture, Nicosia; Selected composer for international workshop “Objective 1=Art= Objective1, 6th International Workshop, Burgenland, Cselley Mill Oslip, Austria; selected composer for international workshop Harry Spaarnaay, Bass Clarinet Workshop York, UK
