Helga Arias Parra

(born 22 August 1984 in Igorre, Vizcaya, Spain) composer. She began composition studies at the Conservatory of Granada (Spain) with several Spanish composers such as Juan Cruz Guevara, Pedro Guajardo, Iluminada Pérez Frutos, Rafael Liñán, Miguel Gálvez and Francisco González Pastor. During her last year she was given a scholarship to study composition at the Conservatory of Milan with Mario Garuti. In 2004 she was funded by the DAAD for a course of German civilization and culture at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg (Germany). A few years later she received a loan from the Nederlandse Taaluni, at the Hasselt university (Limburg, Belgium) where she worked with important figures in Dutch and Flemish culture such as Paul Rans, Philippe Malfeyt, Andries Boone, Lennaert Maes, Lieven Debrauwer, Johan Swinnen, and Bart Demyttenaere. In addition she followed masterclasses of composition and analysis with Cristóbal Halffter, Tomás Marco, Alberto Posadas, Daniel Teruggi, Javier Álvarez or Elena Mendoza and ensembles like Taller Sonoro or Grup instrumental de València. She is currently living and working in Switzerland and studying for a master in electronic music in northern Italy. In addition she has a degree in Translation and Interpreting from the University of Granada.
